Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council officially welcomed the newly selected Councillor Shirley Law at a meeting today.
Councillor Law, who was among a number of community members that nominated for the position recently vacated with the passing of Councillor Alana Purcell, said she “was surprised but so grateful to be selected as the new Councillor”.
Councillor Law who was born in Cherbourg, has traveled extensively around Australia, lived locally for many years, but recently moved back into Cherbourg.
Shirley said she felt honored to be able to make a contribution to the future of Cherbourg, bringing an understanding and passion for community along with fresh ideas and perspective that will only strengthen and support the current council who she says are already doing a great job.
Councillor Law was warmly welcomed by Mayor Arnold Murray, Deputy Mayor Elvie Sandow, Councillors Tom Langton, James Saltner, Acting CEO Chatur Zala and special guests.
