Illegal Dumping targeted

Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program

Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council is working hard to curb illegal dumping, through the Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program (LGIDPP).

The LGIDPP has funded a full-time Compliance Officer who will work across the three local government areas of Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, South Burnett Regional Council and North Burnett Regional Council to investigate illegal dumping, raise awareness within the community and develop long term strategies to reduce waste.

In order to preserve our diverse and unique region, Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council offers free household and green waste disposal at our  transfer station to residents. Cherbourg residents are encouraged to utilise this facility, as Council resources and time are often exhausted due to the removal of illegal dumping and correctly segregating waste.

Illegal dumping and incorrect waste disposal issues are taken seriously by Council. Illegal dumping can result in individual offenders facing fines of more than $2,000 and corporations facing fines of more than $10,000.

This project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government.
