This year the Queensland Indigenous Youth Leadership Program (QIYLP) is being held in Brisbane 25 June to 30 June 2022. This program is delivered as a partnership between the Department of Environment and Science (DES) and Queensland Parliamentary Services and is sponsored by Glencore Coal Assets Australia.

QIYLP is the primary initiative of the Queensland Indigenous Youth Leadership Strategy (QIYLS). This well renowned and impactful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth leadership program offers an exciting opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders 18 to 25 years of age to develop their leadership skills and be introduced to Queensland’s democratic processes. Secondary initiatives of the QIYLS provide further mentoring, professional development opportunities, a trainee position within the Office for Youth and community project grants for past QIYLP participants.

2022 will mark 18 years of delivery for QIYLP. The program has been attended by more than 630 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people from across the state, with many going on to achieve great success in their personal and professional lives. The Office for Youth maintains a register of all past participants, sharing information about further professional and leadership opportunities.
