A message from The Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Housing Unit who are seeking representatives from all the community to participate in a Yarning Circle this coming Friday 23rd June, including elders, local representatives education, health, mental health, youth justice, police, crisis services, domestic violence services, drug alcohol services, housing representatives, maintenance services, legal services, council, PYC, shelters, employment agencies, Centrelink representatives etc… anyone that works in the community to improve outcomes for the Cherbourg residence and families.
The housing and homelessness situation for our First Nations peoples will require everyone at the table to collectively develop actions to enable solutions.
All are welcome to register and attend a Yarning circle: If you cannot attend the face-to-face, please contribute by completing the survey online.
We recognise and acknowledge the efforts of the many dedicated and passionate individuals and organisations across the state that have been working tirelessly for many years for better housing outcomes and to elevate the voices of First Nations peoples in the housing decisions that affect their families and communities. This consultation is just the starting point to determine how the Queensland Government, in partnership with First Nations peoples and organisations, can better address the housing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland.
A state-wide consultation process will be held in June – 14 July 2023 with online and in-person conversations occurring across Queensland.

- written submissions from organisations
- face-to-face and online yarning circles and focus groups across Queensland.

Our Place: A First Nations Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2024-2027 The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Action Plan 2019-2023 set the foundations for a new way of working, where communities take the lead in decision-making for their communities. The Our Place Action Plan will set the direction to improve housing outcomes for First Nations peoples living in Queensland, complementing other reform work being undertaken by the Queensland Government. |
