COVID-19: Cherbourg LDMG activated

In the wake of the current COVID-19 Health Alert, Cherbourg Local Disaster Management Group are in early activation or Alert mode as of 2.00PM Saturday, 14th March

Queensland Health are the lead agency in this current event supported by the Cherbourg LDMG and Council to help our local community.

All advice and updated information around the spread of COVID 19, general health and hygiene information will come from Queensland Health

In a teleconference with all Indigenous Mayors and CEOs, Dr Jeanette Young, Chief Health Officer for Queensland, suggested that on Indigenous communities, extra care should be taken for those suffering with Chronic and respiratory diseases along with the elderly aged 50 years and over.

Neighbouring councils to Cherbourg have also activated, Gympie DDMG moved to ALERT status over the weekend, South Burnett LDMG are at LEAN FORWARD following a confirmed COVID-19 case in Kingaroy leading to community unease and panic buying in the community.

Corona Viruses are a type of virus that can affect humans and animals.  Some coronaviruses cause illnesses similar to the common cold and others cause more serious illnesses, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)

The symptoms to be on the lookout for are Fever, Coughing, Fatigue, Sore Throat and Shortness of breath.

Residents can do their bit to stop the spread of COVID 19 by washing your hands regularly, by covering your coughs and sneezes and staying at home if you’re unwell.
